Understanding Light on the Figure
This 6 video series walks you through understanding how light works via the 4 orders of light effects, and how light interacts with both manmade objects and the human body and how those things differ. We talk about what light can and cannot do in the most straightforward of lighting situations: an indoor, single spotlight setting.
In over 3 hrs of video instruction, I’ll walk you through the various effects of light, starting from most visible to most subtle. We start with how light works on regular platonic form with the sphere. This is the easiest way to explain the various effects of light. From there, I’ll demonstrate how light works slightly differently on organic form and then demonstrate shading a figure from a Bouguereau painting.
Understanding how light works in this scenario can then be extrapolated to other lighting situations and can help you to light imaginary scenes more accurately.
Who These Videos Are For:
Anyone who wants to learn more about the physics of light and improve their shading skills. Some drawing skill is useful, but not necessary.
Bonus: just wait for the squirrel.
